Farida Jalal is an Indian actress best known for her work in Hindi films. Jalal appeared in over 200 films during his nearly fifty-year film career. Jalal has received four Filmfare Awards and two Bengal Film Journalists Association Awards for her character-driven roles in independent cinema and supporting work in mainstream Bollywood productions.
Along with her film work, she has successfully transitioned to numerous shows on Indian television. Her work includes the sitcoms Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Shararat, and Ammaji Ki Galli. When she was two years old, her parents divorced, and she was raised by her mother and grandmother.

Jalal married actor Tabrez Barmavar, who was born in Bhatkal, Karnataka. She met her husband on the set of Jeevan Rekha, fell in love during the shoot, and married in November 1978.
